Discrete models of coupled dynamic thermoelasticity for stress-temperature formulations

چکیده
In this article, the author studies the properties of discrete approximations for mathematical models of coupled thermoelasticity in the stress-temperature formulation. Since many applied problems deal with steep gradients of thermal elds, the main emphasis is given to the investigation of non-smooth solutions of non-stationary thermoelasticity. Convergence of operator-diierence schemes on weak solutions of thermoelasticity is proved, and the dispersion analysis of models is performed. Error estimates and the results of computational experiments are presented. In essence, any mathematical model describes a transformation of diierent types of energy. The recognition of this fact leads to an integral reformulation of diierential models. On the one hand, such a reformulation is a fundamental step in obtaining eeective numerical procedures of projective-variational type. On the other hand, such a reformulation allows us to relax the theoretical assumptions about a solution's smoothness typically made for diierential problems. In the nal analysis, we do not know a priori regularity of the solution when solving a practical problem. Hence it is always necessary to cover a gap between mathematical assumptions on the solution smoothness and the smoothness of the solution in a real problem. Properly organized computational experiments may not only verify the validity of theoretical assumptions and estimates, but also identify new eeects and tendencies that may lead to new directions A part of this work was presented by the author at the Xth International Conference \Numerical Methods for Thermal Problems" that took place at the University of Wales Swansea, U.K. in July 1997.

A general model of the equations of generalized thermoelasticity for an infinite space weakened by a finite linear opening Mode-I crack is solving. The material is homogeneous and has isotropic properties of elastic half space. The crack is subjected to prescribed temperature and stress distribution. The formulation is applied to generalized thermoelasticity theories, the Lord-Şhulman...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of Coupled Thermoelasticity
Most thermal stress analyses assume that the determination of the temperature field is uncoupled from that of the stress and displacement fields, while assuming that the stress and displacement fields depend on the temperature field. This semi-coupled approach to thermoelasticity is not entirely consistent. In this paper the governing equations for the fully coupled theory of thermoelasticity a...
متن کاملOn the Dynamic Characteristic of Thermoelastic Waves in Thermoelastic Plates with Thermal Relaxation Times
In this paper, analysis for the propagation of general anisotropic media of finite thickness with two thermal relaxation times is studied. Expression of displacements, temperature, thermal stresses, and thermal gradient for most general anisotropic thermoelastic plates of finite thickness are obtained in the analysis. The calculation is then carried forward for slightly more specialized case of...
متن کاملDiscrete Element Modeling of Dynamic Compaction with Different Tamping Condition
Dynamic Compaction (DC) is a common deep compaction method that is usually used for densification of coarse-grained soils. Although traditional continuum-based models such as the Finite Element Method can be successfully applied for assessment of stress distributions or deformations induced by DC, they are typically not adequate for capturing the grain scale mechanisms of soil behavior under im...
